Personalized Learning
Personalized learning is basically another term for student specified learning. It's a way of adapting to all students needs while teaching the same concept to all of them. Some students may be very advanced and the curriculum being taught is far too easy so you must find a way of challenging them or letting them go ahead. While that is going on other students may be very lost and need some extra attention to understand the concept being taught, so you must find a way for them to understand what is being taught in a way that meets their needs. Then there is the students that understand what is being taught perfectly. It's important to be aware of all student's types of learning and be able to reach all their needs in order for them to achieve success. Every teachers goal should be mainly focused on the success of every single one of their students. I found this video that explains personalized learning briefly but involves the other factors of the classroom that come into play while teaching and learning. The video is shared below:
Use of Personalized Learning:
When I have my own classroom I will without a doubt have to experience the use of personalized learning. It's important to adapt it in every classroom because not a single student is the same or learns the same. In my own classroom I want to be able to give several options to the students to adapt to their learning. I really hope to incorporate technology using iPads for our classroom device because I believe that allows a whole new type of learning. I think that flipped classrooms are a great way to incorporate personalized learning. They allow the students to learn on the video given but when they get to class they can all move at their own pace and ask any questions that they have. I believe personalized learning is very appropriate in almost all circumstances because it's important to reach all of the needs of each individual student. There will be times where it may be difficult to implement personalized learning, for example: when you want to introduce a new topic focused on a new book that the whole class should read. Some students may not be at that reading or comprehension level so you have to figure out ways to accommodate.
