Social MediaSocial Media is a great tool that has become incorporated in today's society. It's a way of keeping up with the world and other people. Social Media is now being introduced into the classrooms for a use of learning. Some argue that it is simply a distraction, others argue it's an innovative learning tool becoming a necessity.

See Some Examples
Twitter
My group created a Twitter account in class named EDUC 2000_1. We showed examples of how it can be put to use, although there are countless ways We demonstrated creating a poll about what the student's favorite subject is, as you can see on the second screenshot. That is a great tool for anonymous voting in the classroom. We also demonstrated tweeting a photo, students can share school related photos via the classroom Twitter account. This is a just a brief skim of the options that can be incorporated from Twitter into the classroom.

Instagram
I believe Instagram is an underrated social media tool that could be incorporated into the classroom with several benefits. As you can see on the first screenshot an example of introducing Instagram into the classroom. Students can learn how to use a hashtag (#) and what their photos may look like on the site. You can add more to this lesson as well, for example: include a writing prompt or a photo caption in this case underneath their photo. The bottom screen shot lists out other uses for Instagram. You could conduct a science experiment and have the kids post a video or photo of the results. As you can see there are several productive uses of Instagram that could make the classroom more exciting for the students.

Facebook
Facebook is a great tool for not only the classroom but for parents/guardians of the students as well. It's an easier way to connect with families regarding the class but it is also a productive tool for learning. The first screenshot is using the same concept I discussed for Instagram. You can have the kids create a "Facebook" page, literally, on a piece of paper and draw pictures as well as post a status but write it down. This way the class can get the understanding of Facebook before they are on their device. Once they get the hang of it you can incorporate it into lessons. As you can see in my second screenshot, students made a JFK Facebook page which allows them to learn historic facts but recreate history in a fun way!
