What did I know and what did I think about this topic before class? What am I curious about and would like to know about this topic?
I knew that the purposes of collaboration tools are focused on bringing together a class through an assignment in a way. They use to be any type of tool such as: an assignment on a piece of paper. Now they have advanced into technology purposes. There are several collaboration tools I was aware of but didn’t know how exactly they worked. I am curious to see how to use each tool that we discussed in class in a teachers viewpoint. It’s fun knowing how to use these through my experience as a student but now the roles have turned and I get to experience it in the teacher viewpoint. You learn a lot more when you’ve seen both sides of it. It makes it exciting to learn and teach more about collaboration tools!
What did I learn through my preparation for class?
I learned a lot through my preparation for class. We were assigned to sign up for several collaboration links. A few of them include: VoiceThread,ThingLink, Google – docs, slides, sheets, and drawing, Padlet, etc. As I looked through these and many other collaboration tools I thought they were great for younger students. My favorite was ThingLink, it is a very interactive yet informative tool for the students to learn. Although all of these tools are great ThingLink was my favorite.
Additional resources that I found on this topic:
I found this link that is a type of Skype, it allows the student to Skype with others students across the world. You can take a class field trip somewhere else via Skype, talk with a guest speaker across the world, or play mystery Skype with another class to find out where they are from.

I found another tool called Mind Meister, which focuses on mind mapping. It’s like the assignment that I always had to do in school called creating a mind “web” of your ideas. This is exactly what it could be used for. Students or teachers can add colors, correlate assignments together, etc. It has an unlimited amount of options to create it the way you want.

What did I learn in class this week on this topic?
I learned a lot throughout class this week, prior to class I was able to research on this collaboration tools. I learned a little bit but once we went over each site in class I learned a lot. My group worked on a ThingLink page which focused on the Minnesota state map and some important facts about Minnesota. https://www.thinglink.com/scene/712775306024321025. It was a fun way to inform younger students about the state they live with and it allows them to interact in ways other tools don’t allow you. I also learned more about all the fun collaboration tools you can interact into your classroom.
How did my understanding and thinking about the topic change through this process?
My understanding increased after doing more interactive work with each tool. All the assignments we were given in our group were extremely helpful. VoiceThread was a fun way to teach with a video or voice recording. We were able to display a map of Duluth and explain our favorite place to go in the city; it’s a quick and easy way to give examples of the subject being taught along with an explanation. Trello is a quick way of asking students questions and getting a response anonymously, as well as the tool Poll Everywhere. Padlet is literally an online pad where you can type or insert photos as a group or by yourself. You can label pictures and add as much as you want. Overall these collaboration tools were very useful and will be a part of my future classroom if I get the opportunity to use technology.
