What did I know and what did I think about this topic before class? What am I curious about and would like to know about this topic?
In high school we played around with SMARTboards quite a bit but the teachers didn’t use it in a very fun way. It would be used in math class so it would just have equations on the board that we would have to solve so it wasn’t very interactive. I’m curious about learning about the more interactive learning SMARTboards imply into the elementary classroom. I know there are several things to learn about these interactive whiteboards so I’m excited to see what else we can make on them.
What did I learn through my preparation for class?
I always thought SMARTboards were somewhat of a combination of powerpoint slides and white boards, but they are so much more than that. As I was preparing for class I realized all the different games you can play on the board and how interactive it can really be. I still have questions on several parts of this SMARTboard but I believe as a continue on in the class I will learn more and hopefully become a SMARTboard expert.
Additional resources that I found on this topic:
Although this was a resource given to us by Helen, I believe it’s the best resource to use when learning about the SMARTboard. It goes into detail about what exactly each part of the board means and where to find what you need. http://www.lynda.com/SMART-Notebook-tutorials/SMART-Board-Essential-Training/144078-2.html?org=umn.edu
I also found another link that has a video about how to do just about everything on the SMARTboard as well. The videos are longer but incredibly helpful when starting to work with these interactive boards. Also with this video, if you just need help in one particular section of the smart board you can go ahead and search for the topic and the video will play just what you need instead of watching the whole video.

What did I learn in class this week on this topic?
This week in class we realized some computers weren’t quite up to date for the software, so before downloading we came across the solution that you must have new software for the SMARTboard application to be compatible with your computer. Other than that some peers showed me what they made on the SMARTboard and it’s amazing what kinds of features there are to use.
How did my understanding and thinking about the topic change through this process?
As I discussed earlier, I thought SMARTboards were just a combination of powerpoint slides and a regular whiteboard. That opinion has changed. SMARTboards are way beyond that, they are interactive and they create a fun way of learning which allows the students to engage more.
